Keep Your Precious Pup Cozy And Warm In A Shearling Dog Coat
When the weather makes its change from the crisp autumn to the cold chill of winter, you throw on a coat and gloves, right? While most people recognize the need for adding layers to their bodies to keep them warm in the winter months, many people often forget that their animals may need extra layers too. Some dogs (such as Golden Retrievers and English Sheepdogs) have long, thick fur that protects them from the elements can keeps them warm in the cold months. Smaller breed dogs, or short haired dogs, however, do not have a thick fur coat to keep them warm, so it may be wise to invest in a warm sweater or coat to keep them nice and toasty in the winter months. A shearling coat is a good idea (and oh so stylish) for small dogs.
You can find these coats made out of shearling, or sheep wool usually at any pet store that carries dog clothes. More likely than not, you will not be able to find these heavy typed coats in the warm spring or hot summer months, (unless you find some on clearance for a good price), but you can usually see an increase in inventory around mid fall to early winter. Most of these pet stores will allow you to bring your pets with you into the store, so take advantage of that feature and being your animal in to try on the coats to make sure they fit properly and that your pet feels comfortable in it. Having your pet try them on will avoid you having to go back into the store to return your item.
Shearling dog coats will keep your short haired and small breed dogs feeling toasty warm and will definitely protect them from the cold and frigid elements of the winter months. It is also important to remember that your dog’s legs and paws are also exposed to the elements in very cold climates and purchasing a pair of leather and sheepskin canine boots can also protect their paws from getting frostbite, especially if they are left outside for a long period of time. It may seem as if you are going to the extremes for your pet, but what you are really doing is protecting them getting hypothermic, especially in extremely cold regions of the world.
